| Whether you’re
looking for something specific or just fancy dusting off
your credit card and treating yourself, Sheffield has
an undercover shopping experience that should put a smile
on your face.
Located just three miles from Sheffield city centre
is the 2000-acre Meadowhall shopping centre [map], where
shopping lovers can indulge and those who have to drive
them there can find plenty of places to park.
In the past it has been voted the best shopping centre
in Yorkshire and was the first shopping centre to
opens its doors on Sunday after the laws were changed
in 1994.
Meadowhall boasts around 270 shops all brought
together under one roof. Here you’ll find everything
from gadgets to gym equipment, linen to locks, remote
controlled cars to rustic ornaments, as well as fashion
for all budgets.
All the major department stores have outlets here
including House of Fraser, Allders, and Debenhams, as
well as major stores like BHS, Marks & Spencer, Next
and H&M. However you’ll also find less mainstream
options here too, for example Arkwrights Emporium for reproduction antiques and unusual gifts, Last Picture
Store, which sells film and music memorabilia, and Pink Parrot, which sells ethnic and gothic clothing.
As well as shops, Meadowhall also has a number of restaurants
and a food court. There’s also an 11-screen
Vue cinema and the centre also hosts numerous events.
The centre is easy to get to by car, just come off at
junction 34 of the M1 motorway and follow the signs. Meadowhall
is also well integrated into the local public transport
system with buses and trams arriving every few minutes.
