Places in Newcastle |

When you find yourself at a loose end and need a distraction
for an afternoon, or a weekend, there are plenty of places
in and around Newcastle to head to.
People flock to Newcastle from all over to enjoy its superb
shopping, so you could while away the hours at the Eldon
Shopping Centre [map] or the MetroCentre [map] in Gateshead. Or for spending of a different kind, why
not try out some of the bars and restaurants along the
historic Quayside.
Newcastle is a fascinating place to visit and the Discovery
Museum [map] will help you to understand why, with its exhibitions
about the city itself. Other museums in the area will
also give you an insight into the past, as will a visit
to the significant parts of history that are still standing,
like the Castle Keep [map],
the City Walls at Stowell Street, Alnwick Castle
[map] and Segedunum [map] in Wallsend.
Other ideas for places to spend an afternoon are the local
galleries, the Angel of the North and the neighbouring
towns of Jarrow and Jesmond.
