The Morning After in Newcastle |
 |
 |
If the night before
had you attempting to party with all the vim and vigour
of a legendary Geordie night on the town, then you'll
probably need the help of an early morning eatery to put
you back on the right track.
For a friendly feed first thing in the morning head to Betty’s [map] on Marlborough Crescent. At this café you’ll
find a filling fry up and a range of other breakfast eats
to ease you back into reality from eight in the morning.
If you spent the evening drinking cocktails in the trendier
parts of town, then more cosmopolitan consumption awaits
you for breakfast at Café Royal [map].
The building is grand on the outside with contemporary
chic décor on the inside and the food is equally
fashionable. Open from 8:00am everyday except Sunday (when
it opens at 10:00am) you’ll be able to start your
day on a stomach full of waffles with caramelised apples
and vanilla mascarpone and such like. And if you’re
feeling particularly languid, you can stay there right
through ‘til the sun goes down as they serve lunch
and dinner there as well.
For those who always seem to wake up particularly early
after a night out, there’s Boskoops Café
[map].
Open from 6:30 am (except Sunday when they open at 9:00am),
this café requires a little bit of co-ordination
to get in, as there are stone steps to negotiate but after
that just sit back, sip some tea and enjoy the views over
leafy Eldon Square.
If coffee is more your thing of a morning, then you could
try Blakes Coffee House [map] on Grey Street in the heart of the town centre. Located
a little further down from the Theatre Royal, this coffee
house offers a range of coffees that should perk you up.
And then when you feel ready to eat they have a variety
of hot and cold foodstuffs to choose from.
There’s also Coffee Trader [map],
where, as well as coffee, you can also get a 'Kwik' Tan
to at least help you look alive when you’re feeling
off colour. And there’s also theCafé Blue [map],
opposite the Blue Carpet, where you can leisurely enjoy
your hot beverage over a newspaper.
