The trendy Cavern
Walks [map] shopping centre opened in 1987 on the site of the original
world famous Cavern Club in Mathew Street, where
the Beatles belted out their early hits.
Designed with a glass lift and winding staircase, the
centre also boasts a large Beatles statue and is home to an array of exclusive stores, including
fashion boutiques, beauty parlours and jewellers.
Probably the most famous designer to have a store here
is Vivienne Westwood, who opened two
new shops in 2003 – one in Milan the other in Liverpool.
Westwood lines, including Red Label, MAN, and Anglomania,
can be found here, and the introduction of this store
has helped boost the city’s image as a haven for
designer shoppers.
Cavern Walks is also home to fashion stores such as Cricket, Drome, Issy Crown, Pure
Woman, Loki and Joy,
which sell more than 100 designer names between them.
For one-off designer items, or just to catch a glimpse
of a celebrity, check out Drome Couture on the upper level, which has collections by Dolce
& Gabbanna, Ungaro, Voyage
Passion, Bluemarine, Gharani
Strok, Seven and Betsey
Johnson.
If you’re after funky clothes then head to its sister
store, Drome Women, which sells an array
of trendy gear from Michiko Koshino, Guess, Miss Sixty, Diesel, Paul Frank and Stussy,
to name but a few.
Another women’s designer boutique, which is popular
with the likes of Victoria Beckham and the Atomic Kitten
girls, is Pure Woman, which sells the sought after Kal
Kaul Rai range.
For men’s fashion try Cricket, which also has a
women’s section, or Issy Crown, which is known for
its affordable styles, from shirts, ties, and casual wear
to suits for all occasions.
If you’re looking for something for the kids then
get yourself along to Kids Cavern, the
leading children’s designer store in the North West.
Among the labels on sale here are Burberry, Dolce &
Gabbana, Moschino, DKNY, Armani and Ralph Lauren.
Those looking for fancy footwear are in luck, as Soley
Shoes offers shoes by a range of designers including, Jeffery-West, John White, YelloMiles, Hush Puppies and Guess. Authentic 1960s Beatle boots
are also on sale.
When it comes to beauty and therapy, Cavern Walks has
what you’re looking for at Culpeper and Nail Nation.
Culpeper provides aromatherapy products and herbal medicines,
while Nail Nation is the top spot to get your nails
done, regular visitor Victoria Beckham is sure to vouch
for that.
Cavern Walks is also home to the trendsetting Christopher
James Jewellers, which sells unique pieces of
jewellery created using handcrafted gemstones from all
over the world.
When it all gets too much, take a break from the shops
at one of the eateries in Cavern Walks, where you can
chill out, get a bite to eat and recharge your batteries. Lucy in the Sky Café, which is
a shrine to swinging 60's legends and current football
icons, has a great atmosphere and is popular with soap
stars, so keep your eyes open. Chantilly is also a great place to sit, relax and watch the world
go by.
