Liverpool has a
wealth of public transport on offer to make your journey
in, out and around the city centre an easy and pleasant
experience.
For starters there is the City Sightseeing Bus
Tour, an open top double decker providing a hop
on-hop off service, stopping at many of Liverpool’s
top attractions.
If you’re heading to or from one the many towns
and villages surrounding the city centre then there is
a good, reliable bus service on offer. The two principal
bus operators are Arriva North West and CMT Buses, and there are a number of
bus stops in the city centre including Paradise Street
Bus Station, Queen Square Bus Station and on Victoria
Street.
Football fans are also in luck as the Soccerbus service runs direct to Goodison Park [map] and Anfield on match days so you can leave your
car at home. The service runs for two hours before each
match, departing from Sandshills Station to the Liverpool
and Everton stadiums, and back to Sandhills Station for
50 minutes after the final whistle. For further details
about this service or other buses that go to Anfield or
Goodison Park call 0151 330 1066.
If you fancy trying out a different way of travelling,
try the Mersey Ferries River Explorer Cruise,
which has a direct crossing from the Wirral to Liverpool.
The ferries operate hourly seven days a week and the journey
takes around 10 minutes between Seacombe on the Wirral
and the Pier Head in Liverpool
For those of you on a sightseeing tour, the River Mersey
has a rich and varied history, and the ferry service itself
is more than 850 years old. So you can learn a bit about
Liverpool’s history, see all the major landmarks
and enjoy a different way of travelling. More details
about the ferry service are available at www.merseyferries.co.uk
If you’d rather get around by taxi then there is
a good range of private hire cabs and a hackney cab service
in operation in Liverpool city centre.
There are Hackney Cab ranks at Lime Street Station, James
Street Station, the Adelphi Hotel, Whitechapel, Sir Thomas
Street and Chinatown. But you can also hail black cabs
passing by.
Private Hire Taxis must be booked in advance as you cannot
hail one in the street as this illegal. You can book a
private hire taxi by visiting the company's premises or
by telephone.
