Head over to Ripon
Racecourse [map] for the high drama of a great family day
out.
For more than 300 years Ripon has hosted some of
the most exciting racing in the country. Annually offering
more than 14 meetings, several special events, hundreds
of top runners and riders and more than £600,000
in prize money, a day out at the races of Ripon promises
a real spectacle.
The course has come to be known as The Garden Racecourse,
this is largely due to its stunning location.
If you’re visiting the races you can choose between
the Club enclosure and the Tattersalls enclosure.
The Club offers a Champagne bar, a self-service
sandwich bar, members dining room and the St Wilfrid Bar
where you can purchase alcohol to toast another successful
bet.
The Tattersalls enclosure offers access to the parade
ring where you can see the winners and riders after a
race, a licensed restaurant and a traditional fish and
chip shop for hungry race-goers.
The third option is to go for the Course enclosure.
This is the simple and cheap way to enjoy a day
out and is a particularly good option for families.
Look out for the Children’s Day in early
August when the fun of the fair joins the action of the
racecourse, and Ladies Day in early June when you
can don your best hat and frock, or top hat and tails
for the gents and go along to this revered mini Ascot.
Ripon Racecourse can be found just off the B6265 towards
Ripo and is located at North Street.
