The Great Yorkshire
Show is one of the premier events in the British agricultural
calendar and attracts over 120,000 visitors each year,
including a medley of famous faces.
The Show takes place in July on a 450-acre site on the
edge of the celebrated spa town. It is the perfect setting
for an event that combines entertainment and fun with
the opportunity to see first-hand the many facets of country
life and farming.
The Main Ring is the hub of the Show and a packed
programme features everything from international show
jumping to marching bands and the ever-impressive
cattle parade.
The 2004 line-up included the spectacular King’s
Troop Royal Horse Artillery, the Kangaroo Kid Quad Bike
display and musical entertainment from the King’s
Division Waterloo Band.
In spite of poor weather the overall gate figure of 124,502
was one of the highest in the event’s history –
showing the strength of support for this event. The record
gate figure stands at 131,075, which was set more than
20 years ago in 1979.
Around the showground there’s a plethora of interesting
things to see and do. You can take a look at the hundreds
of animals on show – from exotic poultry to
majestic Shire horses. Then there are the many demonstrations,
including sheep shearing, stick making and fly fishing,
to name just a few. There is also the Great Yorkshire
Cheese and Dairy Show, the Fashion Show, the
stunning Flower Show, and the country pursuits
area.
