Sandwich Bars in Glasgow |
 |
 |
Glasgow has
some excellent venues to grab a coffee or an unusual
sandwich. These places are perfect for stopping off
while on the tourist trail or taking a pit stop during
a shopping expedition.
La Focaccia [map] on Byres Road is a welcoming Italian coffee and sandwich
bar that is always extremely busy. There’s a great
selection of speciality coffees to choose from here and
lots of tempting desserts as well as a specials board
containing some tempting lunches. So why not pull up one
of the large stools and sit by the window for a great
view of a lively street while you dine.
If you’ve just stepped off the train at Central
Station and are in need of lunch or a pick-me-up, head
to L’Attache [map] on Waterloo Street, where you’ll find a comfortable
and relaxing atmosphere. You could look for a comfy sofa
in which to peruse the morning papers while you tuck into
one of the large selection of sandwiches. If you’re
feeling flush you could always head downstairs to Sava,
Scotland’s only Yugoslavian restaurant.
Toast [map] is the place for all things bread-related and can be found
at Albion Street in Merchant City. This café is
well-loved by locals and offers a range of bread-based
snacks including a large number of toasted sandwiches,
baguettes, paninis and bagels. Even if you don’t
like bread you’ll probably find something tasty
to tempt you.
If you’d prefer to stick with a familiar name Glasgow
has six Starbucks coffee houses with the flagship
one being located at Sauchiehall Street [map].
Stop by for a quick caffeine hit or relax over a hot baguette
and sink into one of its comfy sofas.
Or you could go for some real Scottish charm to accompany
your BLT and head to Babbity Bowster [map] in Merchant City, which is a particular favourite for
brunch. Hidden away in a haven of greenery and offering
al fresco dining, the bar even has its own ale called
Babbity Thistle Ale which is well worth a taste. |
