Royal
Bank Jazz Festival In Glasgow |
 |
 |
The Glasgow
Jazz Festival is now firmly established as a
premier event on Europe's music calendar, featuring artists
from across the whole jazz spectrum – traditional,
mainstream, blues, world, contemporary and free improvisation.
Centred round the small Merchant City area with
a main open-air stage in George Square [map],
the festival showcases musicians from around the world
who play to huge crowds every year.
Other larger venues include The Old Fruitmarket [map] and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre [map],
and all are within easy walking distance of each other.
In the past the event has played host to legends such
as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, BB King, Ray Charles,
George Benson, Van Morrison and Jack Jones.
As an extra treat, revellers can also enjoy the entertainment
aboard the Riverboat Jazz Cruise, which takes place
on the oldest surviving paddlesteamer in Britain, the PS Waverly. A host of local jazz talent
perform as the boat sail leisurely down the Clyde.
The Glasgow Jazz Festival usually takes place over five
days at the end of June and early July. |
