| Shopping in Edinburgh
is not all tartans, haggis and whiskey but if that’s
what you’re looking for then head for the Royal
Mile [map].
Taking a stroll down the Royal Mile you can combine the
top tourist activities of sightseeing and souvenir
seeking into one easy trip.
One of the oldest streets in the city, the Royal Mile
connects Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of
Holyroodhouse and as you travel from one end to the
other you will find souvenirs a-plenty.
After learning the tricks of the trade at the Tartan
Weaving Mill And Exhibition you can purchase kilts,
scarves or even a full three-piece suite at one of the
various suppliers on the Mile, although there are tartan
sellers all over the city.
For a drop of the ‘water of life’ you could
organise a whisky tasting at the Scotch Whisky
Heritage Centre or simply purchase from the wide range
of whiskies at the very aptly named Royal Mile Whiskies.
The most popular souvenirs of Scotland are tartan, whisky, haggis, shortbread, salmon, kippers and Edinburgh Crystal, most of which
can be found on the Mile. And for those with a sweet tooth
– you’ll find Edinburgh rock here too.
