Finding
a place for sweet dreams without the sugar coating is
easy in a city as diverse as Edinburgh. As the city grows ever popular with backpackers and independent travellers there are a growing number of places to stay for the budget conscious. Many of the hostels in Edinburgh are multi-bed dormitory-style rooms, which can sleep as many as 18 people. However some hostels do have smaller rooms which sleep four and others offer private rooms at an increased cost. Most hostels are located in the city centre with easy access to all the shops and popular sights. With its own bar downstairs St Christopher’s Inn [map] is a popular choice with travellers, as is the Globetrotter Inn [map] opened in 2003, one of Edinburgh’s funkiest hostels. Hostel costs can be as little as £12 per person per night but do vary throughout the year with prices at their highest during the festival period in August. Hostels are also available for families as well - the Scottish Youth Hostel Association has more information on its network of over 80 hostels in Scotland.
