Libraries in East London |
 |
 |
Libraries in east of
London are not only for the worthy purpose of education
but also for fun with books covering everything from
aardvarks to Zygotes.
Most local libraries in the area will have access to
millions of books as they link to others in the borough
and nearby areas, so if the book you want is not on
the premises you may still be able to get access to
it from your library.
However books are not the only resource supplied by
local libraries – tapes, CD’s, DVDs and
access to computers and the Internet are all available
from most libraries, while some also organise special
coffee mornings, Rhyme Time and other activities for
under 5’s, as well as reading groups and one off
events.
Anyone can access a local library for reference only
purposes, however if you want to take items away with
you, you will need to be a member. Membership is usually
restricted to residents of the area but is free.
As well as subject information local libraries are also
great for information about the local area, including
tourist information and events happening in the community.
Two of the main libraries in the area are Hackney Central
Library [map] , which has information in a range of different
languages and full wheelchair access, and Whitechapel
Library [map], which has a children’s library
service.
Mobile libraries are also used in some areas of east
London so that people who find it difficult or inconvenient
to get to a library can still have access to library
items and information.
