Comedy In East London |
 |
 |
If songs of joy and tears of laughter are all we need
to lift our hearts then head for east London to send it
soaring.
Hackney Empire [map] is where you’ll find premier league comics wielding
their one-liners and observational anecdotes for your
paying pleasure. Historically this is where comedy forefathers
including Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel and George Formby all plied their trade and today Hackney
Empire is where you’ll find the crème of
the crop… possibly even on the same bill.
The Backyard Comedy Club [map] began in 1998 enabling punters to enjoy quality comedy
in less than salubrious surroundings – today however,
the club built and run by British comic Lee Hurst (of They Think its All Over fame) offers the best of both
worlds. A show in this 400-seater venue gives you three
top acts just round the corner from Bethnal Green tube
station.
East London is also home to one of the popular Jongleurs [map] comedy venues. Jongleurs Bow has the great comedy turns
you’ve come to expect from the comedy chain housed
in a Victorian warehouse close to Mile End tube
station.
Thursday night is comedy night in Walthamstow with
the Laughing Horse comedy show allowing
acts from all over the country to cause fits of laughter
at The Plough Inn Theatre [map].
