Sandwich Bars in Durham |
 |
 |
If you’re
on the move or just feeling a little bit peckish, pay
a visit to one of Durham’s sandwich bars and take
time out to recharge your batteries.
Whether you want a luxury coffee, a midday snack or afternoon
tea, they are all catered for in the city centre.
Shoppers who need to rest their aching feet should head
to Cafe Continental [map] on Silver Street,
which has a great selection of baguettes, milkshakes and desserts. In warmer weather you’ll also
find a couple of tables outside overlooking the river.
Just up the road is another coffee shop, Caffe Nero
[map],
which offers a wide range of snacks, sandwiches and pasta
dishes.
For sandwiches, pies and pasties pay a visit to the Baker’s
Oven [map] on Saddler Street, which is open from
8:00am for early birds.
If you’re looking for deli-style food at
a chic eatery then why not try Whispers Coffee Lounge [map] set in a quiet courtyard just off the main North Road. Here you’ll get a great selection of
foods from quick snacks to main courses, which are served
all day using freshly prepared ingredients.
Another favourite with shoppers, workers and students
is O’Brien’s Irish Sandwich Bar [map],
which is part of a national chain and is situated on Elvet
Bridge. The menu includes a range of tasty sandwiches,
such as the Chicken and Bacon Tripledecker and Turkey
and Berry Chutney, along with great soups, Irish stew,
and scrumptious bagels.
Finally, for a little culture with your ciabatta why not
head to the Gala Café [map], which is part of
the Gala Theatre complex on Millennium Place.
Here you can sit back, relax and enjoy all the usual lunchtime
cuisine, such as sandwiches, soup and cakes, along with
a teaming hot cappuccino.
