Live Music in Durham |
 |
 |
It certainly doesn’t share its neighbour Newcastle’s
reputation for live music, but Durham still plays host
to plenty of up-and-coming bands and well-known singers.
The city’s main venue for music is the Gala Theatre
[map],
which is part of Durham’s Millennium City project and offers delights such as opera, jazz and classical
concerts, and 50s, 60s and 70s music nights.
If you’re looking for something a little different
then why not try The Colpitts [map] on the outskirts of the city centre, where live folk
music is played every Monday night to a very lively
crowd.
The Fish Tank [map] on Neville Street is another popular haunt for music lovers,
not that you have to actually walk inside the pub to hear
the tunes. They are so loud you can hear them right down
the street!
And if none of the above are to your liking, why not head
out of Durham to nearby Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Sunderland
or Newcastle,
which all have a much wider choice of live music venues.
