With a number of
amateur teams, including Durham
City FC, and plenty of pitches ideal for five-a-side
and 11-a-side matches, Durham is not short of footballing
action.
So whether you want to practise your free kicks or watch
a team in action, there’s a venue to cater for your
needs in this historic city.
There are around 30 football pitches available
for hire by teams, work colleagues or families in and
around Durham. These include three on Belmont Park at
Gilesgate Moor, two on the Sherburn Road Estate and two
in West Rainton.
All of the pitches are outdoors and are also used by local
rugby teams, although a number of the city’s leisure
centres also have multi-purpose indoor halls that
are perfect for a five-a-side game.
If you want to get kitted out for your big game, whether
you’re a player or spectator, head to one of the
city’s sport shops, such as JJB Sport [map] and First Sport [map], where you can get
all the latest football gear, from replica England shirts
to shin pads.
Of course, if you want to see some top football action
you could always head out to one of Durham’s neighbouring
towns and cities, where you can see the likes of Newcastle
United, Middlesborough FC and Sunderland
FC.
