Dance in Durham |
 |
 |
If you want to sit back, relax and watch some of the best
dancers in the business, or fancy learning a few steps
for yourself, pay a visit to one of the dance venues in
Durham.
For everything from classical ballet to modern dance get
along to the city’s Gala Theatre [map],
which plays host to a number of national touring productions throughout the year.
Based in the same complex on Millennium Place, you’ll
find the Gala Studio, which has a fully sprung
dance floor making it ideal for the salsa, line and tea
dancing lessons offered here.
There are also a number of dance schools, where you can
learn ballet, tap, modern, jazz and ballroom, to name
but a few.
For traditional ballet and tap try the Joyce Jeffrey
School of Theatre Dance [map] which also offers lessons in theatre craft, modern jazz
and drama, or Born to Dance [map] in nearby Darlington, which also teaches modern, acro-gym
and lyrical dance.
If you fancy learning a different style of dancing, check
out the lessons on offer at the Emma McGurrell School
of Dance [map] in the small town of Birtley, where you can try freestyle
and cheerleading.
Other dancing schools in and around Durham include the Lee Green Dance Centre [map], the Lilian
Aubrey School of Dancing [map] in Chester-le-Street and the Northern Star School of Dance [map] in Sacriston.
