Durham
may well be full of students carrying Gucci bags and Prada
sunglasses, but there are plenty of eateries here where
you can enjoy fine food at a bargain price. Always a winner when you’re hungry and short of pennies is an ‘all you can eat’ Chinese buffet, and there is a selection of those in this historic city. Located on North Road in the heart of the city centre China Joe [map] serves a buffet with a choice of more than 40 Chinese dishes every day of the week. Just up the road from here you’ll find Lau’s Buffet King [map] restaurant, which also offers an ‘eat all you can’ menu and is a firm favourite with university students. If it’s a taste of Italy you’re after then why not try Bella Pasta [map] on Silver Street, which offers authentic cuisine with special offers at lunchtime and some evenings. Another well priced eatery with a great reputation for good food is Pizza Express [map], which is part of a national chain and is located on Saddler Street. It offers Italian food at reasonable prices in a trendy but friendly atmosphere, making it a hit with students, families and businesspeople alike. Finally, you could always opt for a little fast food, as Durham is home to a Burger King [map] and two McDonalds.
