GO durham city football club

Durham City AFC was formed in the 1918/19 season, when for that year only, it operated in the old Victory League that was formed in celebration of the end of the World War I.

The club had an eventful first few years leaping from one league to another, starting with the North Eastern League in 1919/20, where they played for two seasons before being admitted to Division Three North.

Durham played in that league until 1928, when they failed to gain re-election and were forced to rejoin the North Eastern League. The club stayed in this division until 1938, when due to financial problems, it was force to disband.

Other than a short period in the Wearside League in 1938, the club did not reform until 1950 but had successfully gained admission to the Northern League by 1952.

Since its formation, the club has occupied five different grounds; Garden House Park, Kepier Heughs, Holiday Park, Ferens Park and their current ground, Archibalds Stadium [map], which is situated at Belmont on the outskirts of the city. This stadium has been purpose built, and boasts a two-storey clubhouse and a 300-seater stand along a covered area for 600 standing spectators.

Over the years Durham City AFC has won numerous honours including, D.F.A. Benevolent Bowl (1955/56), D.F.A. Challenge Cup (1971/72), Northern League Championship (1993/94), Northern League Division 2 Championship (1998/99) and the Northern League Cup (2001/02).
