| Getting around
and out of London on your own steam is maybe best done
by train as it provides the best compromise between cost
and convenience.
Over ground trains from London’s nine main rail
stations will take you to towns and cities across England.
On the whole you will find that:
- trains to the north go from King’s Cross and Euston
- trains to north-west London, Chilterns go from Marylebone
- trains to the south-east go from Charing Cross and London Bridge
- trains to South Wales, west England, south-west
England, south Midlands and Heathrow Airport go from Paddington
- trains to the south and south-west go from Waterloo
- trains to south England, south-east England, Gatwick
Airport and Channel ferries go from Victoria
- trains to east London, north-east London, Stanstead
Airport and East Anglia go from Liverpool Street
Trains from London will also take you to Scotland and
Wales with trains to Edinburgh taking around four hours
and the journey from the capital to Cardiff taking approximately
two hours.
Completed in 1994 the Channel Tunnel gives you
an affordable but time efficient alternative to get to
Europe. Eurostar trains can be taken directly from Waterloo
International station to Paris, Lille, Brussels, Calais,
the French Alps or Disneyland Paris on mainland Europe
using the longest underwater tunnel in the world. |
