So you’re feeling a little worse for wear after your night on the town and you need a hearty breakfast to help relieve the hangover. Well, you’re in luck because Cardiff is full of trendy little cafés and coffee shops offering everything from eggs and bacon with a pint-sized mug of tea, to croissants and an espresso.
For breakfasts, pastries and club sandwiches try Café Latte [map] on Charles Street, a licensed café-bar with a garden at the back where you can lounge in the sunshine while recovering from the night before.
Adorned with comfy sofas and wooden tables, the Ha! Ha! Bar and Canteen [map] at The Friary on Cathays Park is hugely popular with the brunch crowd. As well as being favoured for its food and drink, with a menu of true comfort foods that include a wonderful onion and mustard mash, Ha!Ha! has a sunny terrace where you can sit under parasols and watch the world go by while leafing through complimentary newspapers.
If you fancy breakfast away from the city centre why not try the Ana Bela Cosmopolitan Café [map] on Pontcanna Street in the Pontcanna area of the city. Here you can choose from an extensive menu, which includes a full breakfast of sausage, bacon, eggs and toast, along with hot sandwiches, salads, pastas and seafood.
As its name suggests the Tuck Inn Café [map] on Cowbridge Road East is the obvious place to round off a perfect night or start a great morning with a good old fry-up and steaming mug of tea.
Café Calcio on Cwrys Road and Saffron Café [map] in the Canton area of the city also make good pit stops if you need a decent breakfast before you can function properly for the day.
But if you’re looking for a healthy option then pop along to the Greenhouse Café [map] close to the Cardiff University campus. Using mostly organic ingredients the café has a small vegetarian and seafood menu that changes every week to rave reviews from veggies and meat eaters alike. This place also does great Sunday brunch.
Finally, AJ’s Coffee Shop [map] on City Road offers a great veggie breakfast and what are regarded as the best curly fries in Cardiff as well as plenty of meals for meat eaters. With big comfy sofas, lots of magazines to read and a great atmosphere, this is a great place to hang out with friends and relive the night before.
