When money’s tight you can still treat yourself with some hearty fare from some of Cambridge’s best budget restaurants.
If it’s a simple sandwich stop you’re after why not pop into one of the famous name venues in the area. Pret a Manger [map] can be found at Petty Cury. This small shop serves a selection of specialist sandwiches in bright and modern premises. There’s the usual suspects on offer including BLT and egg mayo, but you’ll also be able to try some unusual dishes including sushi, soup and noodles.
Another café that has your budget on its agenda is Peppercorns [map] on Rose Crescent. Get a tasty baguette down your neck without breaking the bank or choose from a range of cakes and biscuits to fill you up.
All Bar One [map] on St Andrew’s Street, is close to Emmanuel College and Downing College and is therefore packed with students who know a good deal when they see one. Make lunchtime more interesting with a great selection of tasty treats including flour tortilla wrap filled with flaked salmon and crumbled goats’ cheese salad.
If you’re looking for cheap food that’s good for you head to Cazimir [map] on King Street. This cozy Polish café offers plenty of unusual dishes and a variety of Polish pastries to eat in or take away.
For something simple, yet stylish, head to Café Adriatic [map], Norfolk Street. This is a very popular café so you might not get in on first try but a return visit is a must to enjoy the excellent fish dishes, all offered at a very reasonable price.
Those with a penchant for Japanese cuisine will be delighted to discover that there’s a place for you even when you’re not feeling flush. Dojo Noodle Bar [map], Millers Yard, offers a variety of noodle treats including plenty for vegetarians. There’s also meat and seafood dishes, with generous servings being the order of the day.
