Brighton

Brighton Pride takes
place each August and has rightly earned itself the title “the
biggest and best pride in the UK”. It is at the very heart
of the country’s gay and lesbian scene and has been joined by
Winter Pride, which is held in Brighton each February.
More than 100,000 people flock to Brighton each summer
to enjoy a week of community events. The week culminates with a carnival
parade through the city by the sea and a busy festival in Preston
Park [map].
The traditional parade route starts at Madeira Drive, then makes its
way past Victoria Gardens, through the Old Steine, along London Road
and into Preston Park.
Throughout the afternoon and well into the evening, the carnival parade
event offers the best singing divas and drag stars on
the main stage, as well as the Wild Fruit Dance Tent for the
serious partygoers.
There's also well over 100 stalls in the market sell everything
from adult toys and fashion accessories to piercing
and original art. There's also food and a whopping six bars,
as well as a funfair.
After sweeping through the park, the party spills into Brighton town
centre. You can expect the city to be buzzing with a series of themed
club nights where you can paint the town red - or pink. The party
doesn't end there - the carnage continues well into Sunday, where
the funfairs are back in action and you can re-live your fun-packed
Saturday afternoon all over again.
Pride celebrations are an integral part of Brighton life, and have been voted the best in Britain
by leading lights in the gay press. |
