| Situated at Stanley
Park just off the M55 near the town centre, Blackpool Cricket
Club [map]
has a number of teams, and the clubhouse is also used by other
organisations.
As far as cricket goes, the first and second teams play in the
Northern Premier League alongside the likes of Fleetwood, Barrow
and Lancaster, while the third and forth teams play in the Fylde
Cricket League. There are also a number of junior teams including
Under 11, Under 13, Under 17 and Under 18s, which have all enjoyed
great success in recent times.
The cricket club is also used as Blackpool Stanley Rugby Club’s
headquarters, while the Blackpool Men’s Hockey Team use the
clubhouse as a base, along with three squash teams.
Blackpool Cricket Club has brought home many honours throughout
its history, particularly in the early 90's when, amongst other
league honours, the first team won the National Club Championship
at Lords in 1990 and the Lancashire Knockout Trophy three
times in 1989, 1990 and 1995.
Many star names have graced the pitch at Stanley Park over the years,
including Bill Alley, Rohan Kanhai and more recently
Jack Simmons, Richie Richardson, Hamesh Anthony
and Heath Davies.
Stanley Park [map]
also plays host to a number of county games throughout the season,
as Lancashire County Cricket Club uses it as an outground.
In the recent times Blackpool has hosted both County Championship
matches and G & G Trophy games, with Sky Sports cameras
there to capture all the action.
