Country retreats may
not come close to the choice of seafront hotels on offer in Blackpool
but if you want to unwind in idyllic surroundings there are a few
rural hotels on offer not far from the town.
Located about 20 minutes from central Blackpool is the Grand Hotel
[map]
on South Promenade in Lytham St Annes, which stands in its own grounds
and offers uninterrupted views of the picturesque coastline. This
beautiful Victorian hotel, with 53 finely decorated en suite bedrooms,
is renowned for the excellence of service it offers to its guests.
Fine dining is available every night in the Bay Restaurant
[map],
where a wide range of modern English dishes are served, while the
hotel always has an intimate and tranquil atmosphere.
The hotel’s most recent development is the luxurious leisure
club, which includes a fully equipped gym, indoor heated swimming
pool, Jacuzzi, Sanarium, Sun Shower, poolside bar and a decked al
fresco restaurant area.
Also located away from the bright lights of Blackpool is the Glendower
Hotel [map]
at St Annes on Sea, an impressive 19th century building commanding
one of the finest positions on the Fylde Coast close to the beach.
This family-run hotel has been refurbished to a high standard whilst
retaining its historic character and guests can now choose between
family rooms, rooms with four-posters and rooms with sea views.
In the Glendower Hotel restaurant you are served imaginative and varied
menus, and in the New Waves leisure suite there is a heated pool and
a sauna, along with a poolside coffee lounge, family room and games
room. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from Blackpool.
Situated just two miles from central Blackpool in 236 acres of countryside
is the De Vere Herons’ Reach [map],
the resort’s most stylish hotel. This residence has a
lot to offer visitors, from a fabulous leisure club with a swimming
pool and spa to a superb dining experience and an 18-hole golf course.
Other historic country retreats worth checking out include the Mains
Hall Country House Hotel [map],
which dates back to 1536 and has royal connections, and the Brabyns
Hotel [map],
a Tudor-style mansion located just a mile from the seafront.
