Hit the evening running
by popping into one of Belfast’s ultra-trendy haunts or while
away a sunny afternoon and catch up with friends over a latte in a
popular coffee bar, whatever kind of venue you’re looking for,
there’s something to suit every taste in Belfast.
The coolest of the cool head to The Apartment [map],
Donegall Square West, which is populated by the young and successful
of Belfast. Choose to sit at one of the three bars (across two floors)
or dine in the fine restaurant or café. Even though this stylish
venue looks pricey it’s a lot cheaper than many of its contemporaries.
Literature lovers will be in seventh heaven at Bittle’s Bar
[map],
Victoria Street, which offers real Irish charm. The walls are adorned
with portraits of some of Ireland’s best-loved writers including
James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde.
If you want to experience a by-gone era head to Belfast’s oldest
pub McHughs [map].
Located at Queen’s Square McHughs was first opened in 1711 and
has hosted many lively meetings during the subsequent centuries. The
fascinating décor includes a working ship's boiler and 18th
century oak trusses.
History buffs will also enjoy supping an ale at The Duke of York
[map],
Commercial Court, which can be found by navigating the area’s
cobbled streets. This pub tells the history of Belfast’s maritime
past and is crammed with interesting memorabilia. Live music, good
food, and excellent Guinness make this pub well worth a visit.
If you’re looking for something a bit different, you could follow
the students to The Botanic Inn [map]
on Malone Road, where you’ll find a wide-ranging crowd out for
fun, helped by the genial hosts who often welcome stilt walkers and
fire eaters into this haunt, as well as offering a regular disco.
Another student favourite can be found at Eglantine Inn [map]
on Malone Road, where you’ll enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and
some excellent deals on alcohol.
