If you’re planning
an out of season visit to Belfast you might just be caught up in the
action at the Belfast Arts Festival at Queens that takes place each
year in late October-early November. Covering just about every theatre and arts venue in Belfast, from the Grand Opera House [map] to the Lyric Theatre [map] and everywhere in between, there’s a wealth of entertainment on offer. Bringing you the best of local, national and international art talent on a grand scale, this festival has been a highlight in the Belfast calendar for more than 40 years. Adding some extra sparkle to autumn with the very best of international and local theatre, dance, visual arts, music and comedy, the Festival has grown to be Ireland's largest arts festival encompassing a wide range of city venues and welcoming people from every walk of life to participate. The “what’s on” brochure is usually a well-guarded secret that isn’t released until mid-September but if previous years are anything to go by you can expect to see top new comedians, such as Daniel Kitson and Noel Fielding, as well as old favourites such as Ken Dodd at The Grand Opera House. There’s also plenty of live music taking place in cafes across Belfast, art displays in unlikely places, theatre in unconventional settings and pubs playing host to the spoken word as hundreds of poets descend on watering holes across the city.
