There’s plenty of unusual museums in Bath that will
certainly make learning about the past good fun. Why not start your journey into the past at the oldest house in Bath. Sally Lunn’s Museum [map] on North Parade, is a small museum situated beneath some quaint little tearooms. Fill your stomach with Sally Lunn buns and then take a peek at the Roman, Saxon and Medieval ruins in the floors beneath. One of the area’s most unusual museums can be found at The Calverton Manor, which is home to the American Museum [map]. Here you can learn a lot about the American way of life, its connections to England and Bath (in particular) and its colonial background. Another interesting museum reflecting a strong cultural heritage is The Museum of East Asian Art [map]. There’s plenty of hands-on exhibitions here and a good educational programme for young children, who can enjoy learning about 5,000 years of Asian history. The Jane Austin Society [map] is a must for lovers of literature. Located on Gay Street, this is a fantastic little centre that’s packed with authentic documents and artefacts, as well as some replicas of clothing etc from the Jane Austin era.
